Purrs & Prayers Request For Socks: Updated
Wednesday Night Update:
August 21st – Socks is home. They still do not have a diagnosis. He goes to his regular vet Monday to check his blood work and make sure he is doing OK. He is on a steroid, two antibiotics, and a acid reducer.
Wednesday Update: They got some of the test results back and the good news is there is no sign of cancer at least not yet. The Feline Leukemia bone marrow test is still pending. Also the PCV has gone up to 22% (Great news) and socks is eating. They think the thyroid medicine may be causing his immune system to go haywire, but they haven’t ruled out tick borne diseases or another sort of pathogen. At the moment they have taken him off his thyroid medication and he is receiving antibiotics and steroids.
Socks had to go to the vet yesterday, on his birthday, because he’d stopped eating. Socks’ mom wrote, “Apparently something is attacking Socks’ red blood cells and the bone marrow is sending out infant blood cells. Dr. Hollis said they are seeing a lot of cells with the nucleus still attached. His spleen was also enlarged so they are going to get a sample of it too. They are also doing a panel for tick borne diseases. (He was bit by a tick back in March). He is going to get a blood transfusion after the bone marrow biopsy. Fingers crossed he does well and can come home tomorrow afternoon. He is currently at a specialty vet in Manderville, Louisianna about a 1 1/2 hour drive from the house.” Please visit Alasandra, The Cats & Dogs to read updates on his condition and leave a message for his family.
