Fundraising and Helping

Different cat bloggers around the cat blogosphere do fund raisers for friends, for their own cats, or for rescue groups. We think that’s a great thing. What a generous group! That always blows me away. It always has. Where else would you find such a cool group of people and cats? Especially one who’ve almost none ever met in person!
Unfortunately, there have been some issues about fund raising over the years and they’re cropping up more and more recently with the current economic climate. As Chief Crabilator and Bad Guy, it’s my job to get that straight.
As always, this is brought to you courtesy of people overwhelming ML and KC, and the CB for money. There is very little anyone can do around here that ticks me off as much as people hurting ML’s feelings, especially by putting her in a position where she wants to help but it’s unreasonable or inappropriate to. So I’m stepping out of the background again to make all this very clear again. Here’s the straight shooting.
As much as this great group likes to help friends, we cannot help everyone, and we cannot help anyone all the time.
So here are the guidelines for fund raising stuff on CB. They’re not new per se, but in our desire to help, things have gotten out of hand again, especially in the background here.
- If you’re not part of the CB cat blogger community, visit these resources for help. This post today was prompted by the last straw of yet another request from someone who’s not a CB cat blogger at all for us to help their cat. ML and KC get several requests like this a week, though! We concentrate on our community. We cannot help everyone. But we have listed these resources for ways anyone can get help even if they’re not a CB cat blogger.
- If someone wants to offer to raise money for you, that’s great! They should put the fund raiser on their blog and we’ll be happy to post brief news about it at the beginning and end of the fund raiser, plus a link to it in the sidebar. Y’all are also welcome to post about it on your blog every day and put that in the autolinkies. And visit these resources for more help.
- If you need to raise money for your own cats, put it on your own blog and put it in the daily auto linkies. And visit these resources for more help.
- If you want to do an auction for anyone, do it on your own blog. ML is swamped with personal crises that would knock many people to the ground completely. It’s really unfair of us to try to send all our stuff to her to deal with. She and I are both glad to give you suggestions and tips on how to do it so that it’s easiest for everyone. But she is not endlessly able to deal with the stuff for 200 cat bloggers, nor am I, nor anyone else I know of. So we each need to do our own bit to help raise money for friends.
And please keep this in mind, whether it applies to you or another friend: Not everyone has money to pitch in, and nobody has money to pitch in all the time. That is OK. The Cat Blogosphere is about community and friends and fun. If and when you can help, go for it if you want to. We need our cat blogger friends as friends, not as wallets! We need cats blogging for fun things to read, to teach us, to make us laugh, to make us grin and sigh and have silly contests for badges, and to just be there. You don’t need to have money to belong. We each do and give what we can, and that makes it work.

Yes, a very big and heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the daily CB, especially ML. We can’t imagine how she keeps up with it all, plus her home responsibilities.

We hope no one thinks we’re trying to get monies from all of you! we just want to help out. We will take down the raffles if you would like us to. We don’t want to anger anyone- or make anyone think we’re after their money!

Well said MomRobyn – efurryone can do their own thing raising monies for our furriends, and we knows that sometimes we can give and sometimes we can’t – and although we feels bad about it sometimes, we knows that efurryone else in the werld is hafing the same prollems, so none of us should get down about it. We would nefur wand MommyML to be so stressed out – she has so much do deal wif right now.

Very well said, Mom Robyn! We’re so proud and happy to be a member of the CB and cherish each and every friend we have met here and are still meeting. What is even more precious to us is those behind the scenes who keep this awesome group running and keeping us focused. (((HUGS))) to you all!

You go girl! Well said and keeping in mind that this weekend is hug weekend. Maybe we just need to step back and share the hugs.

You go girl!!!!!
As an CB addicted lurker, I am very impressed by your direct and careful reminder.
I laugh at the funnies, I cries at the sads but I always read the CB. I contribute when I can and I pray and purr and encourage my two kitties to purr whenever it is needed.
I don’t comment much because I find it very scary even in the anonyminity(sp???)of the internet. I have been involved with internet groups and I know they can get weird.
I think you all do an AMAZING job of keeping this place going. None of us can solve all of the problems of all the cats. Please don’t let anyone make you feel bad.
I haven’t written to ML because I think that a total stranger offering support in the middle of an extremely difficult time is not helpful since most of us want to take of the people who want to take care of us.
Keep up the GREAT work.
Love from Debby in Philadelphia and her two kitties, Cocoa and Honey.

This is Robyn kidnapping Sanjee’s login for the moment. She won’t log out to let me log in!
To all of you, thanks.
Hansel, no, I wasn’t talking about you. Doing auctions and raffles on your own blogs is exactly the kind of thing that works best for everyone! Then CB gets announcements out at the beginning again as a reminder at the end, puts it in the sidebar, everyone can know about it, and it doesn’t overwhelm anyone like that. Purrfect!
I had just also wanted to throw in that reminder, that we’re all valuable parts of this group all that time. I know many of us feel sad when we can’t help financially like we want, but we’d all be far, far sadder if we didn’t have all our friends just being there.
*hugs* and *scritches* all around.

*claps* Very well said, Robyn! You guys all do wonderful work “behind the scenes” to keep it all going! I don’t know how you do it with everything, but you both manage it superbly.
Love,

We are so proud to be members of the Cat Blogosphere here at the cozy cottage. We burst with pride when we talk about you to our friends. We are grateful to help out in many ways…with prayers, with raffles, with aukshunses, with advice, but most importanly with our friendships…the just being there is what makes it all work. Knowing we are never alone, is what completes us. Thank you Mom Robyn and dearest ML for all your love you pour into our community!

We are glad that we have not angered anyone! whew!
But we do agree with what you said. People should not harass others telling them they need to give money. Everyone wants to help, but not everyone CAN, that’s important to remember.
I love the CB, and i’m proud of EVERYONE here that simply purrs when we’re in need of assistance. Not all forms of help are in green papers. It’s in the form of your hearts and your purring and caring ways.
We love you guys.

We echo all the sentiments above. All of us here in this house are just awed by the work that ML, Deb, Robyn, and others put in to make the CB work.
We love you all! {{{{hugs}}}}
