Pediatrician T. Berry Brazelton’s column warns a new mother to get rid of her cats because "some babies will seek out the babies’ mouths and noses, and lie on them to smother them." No, seriously, that’s what he wrote. At the end of the column it says that “Questions or comments should be addressed to Dr. T. Berry Brazelton and Dr. Joshua Sparrow, care of The New York Times Syndicate, 500 Seventh Ave., 8th Floor, New York, NY 10018. Questions may also be sent by e-mail to: nytsynfamilies [at] nytimes [dot] com.” It sounds like the doctors need to be educated — kindly but firmly — that they are passing off an old wives’ tale as fact. ~A Few Good Cats
