TORONTO (CP) - Hill’s Pet Nutrition has recalled some dry cat food made with the same contaminated wheat gluten that prompted a massive recall of wet dog and cat food.

In a statement Friday, Hill’s Pet Nutrition said its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry sold in Canada and the U.S. included wheat gluten from the same supplier that Menu Foods used. Hill’s, based in Topeka, Kan., said its other products were not affected, and called the recall “precautionary.”

It’s the first dry pet food to be recalled since Menu Foods (TSX:MEW.UN), based in Mississauga, Ont., recalled some 60 million cans and pouches of some 95 brands of “cuts and gravy” style wet food.

Earlier in the day, U.S. officials identified melamine-tainted gluten produced in China and distributed by a lone American company as the likely cause of the massive Menu recall.

About 60 million cans and pouches of wet pet food has been yanked from shelves following the deaths of more than a dozen pets.
